“For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hinder the truth in unrighteousness; because that which is known of God is manifest in them; for God manifested it unto them. For the invisible things of him since the creation of the world are clearly seen, being perceived through the things that are made, even his everlasting power and divinity; that they may be without excuse because that, knowing God, they glorified him not as God, neither gave thanks; but became vain in their reasonings, and their senseless heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools” (Rom. 1.18-22).

"For Moses describeth the righteousness which is of the law, That the man which doeth those things shall live by them. But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down from above:) Or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.) But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation" (Rom. 10.5-10). People will be held accountable by the creation. That alone is enough to consign you to your eternal punishment for failing to acknowledge your Creator.

“Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished” (2 Pet. 3.3-6). The intervening of God both in creation and prophecy is connected here. The key phrase here is willingly ignorant. It’s a choice thing.

Hell is what Dante said it is, "abandon all hope who enter here". Hell is where a person is exposed to their own mistaken sin for eternity because they did not want forgiveness from it. Imagine being disconnected from the source of life in perpetuity. God will vindicate His Son as King with the retributive justice of hell, to defend His moral order and to highlight the preciousness of the Servant who died to make us just. The problem, obviously, is people don't understand the magnitude of sin and how God views it. Consequently, people become callous.

What will be the reason for going to hell?
Worshipping materialism (not referring to wealth, but claiming everything is only naturalistic), universalism (trying to take the forever out of hell), and annihilationism (attempting to take the hell out of forever by a conditional immortality).
