I just listened to a broadcast in which Gary R. Habermas said that when Christians die they remain alive but without a body.
This is a great heresy, for a human being is not a human being with a body. Just as Lazarus went into soul sleep in the good side of Hades to await resurrection one day, so too are all people whether the good or bad side of Sheol. Acts 2.34 says no man is resurrected, not even David a man after God's own heart. 1 Thess. 4.14-18 says we are resurrected together, so no party spirit going on up in Heaven of people entering in every second without a body. There is an OT passage that say no man can come before the High Priest naked, that is, without a clothed body. Human beings are living souls with a spirit and a body. When the spirit directly created by God by the breath of life made contact with the body man became a living soul. Man is tripartite not bipartite. Man is asleep without one of these 3 parts attached.
One of the other mistakes I have noticed Gary makes as well is to claim Jesus died 30 AD. But Nisan 14 in 30 AD is not a Friday. Jesus died on the cross April 1, 33 AD (Gregorian), Nisan 14, Friday.
What is the negative consequence of the belief in the heresy of being alive after death? It engenders spirit communications with loved ones, but since humans are asleep when they die, what is really occurring is evil spirits are posing as loved ones. This is sorcery and necromancy wittingly or unwittingly by the assailant.
