Recommended Changes for Racquetball
Recommended changes for Racquetball:
1) Racquetball use to always be 1 serve. Jason Mannino is to be blamed for going to 2 serves. 1 serve is better because it opens the game to a more defensive style which Charlie Brumfield, the father of racquetball, said is essential to the sport and has died since going to 2 serves. It doesn't always have to be blast'em smash'in racquetball. That potentially will draw lots of players away from the sport because they are more control players. A variety of approaches makes the game fuller and more dynamic and better for the camera. Variety is the spice of life.
2) The ball is never out on the back wall. Different courts have different back walls with different heights and obstacles. I say everything is always in play. No back wall line. Some courts are open in the back others are all wall. That's part of the game. Players are dejected because they made an amazing get but the ball went out on the back wall. Potentially the rally could have continued on and got real exciting. Sometimes the play has to be stopped as well because the ball bounces on the floor and goes out of bounds, yet could have been kept in play if the out line was not counted, providing opportunity, again, for another great rally.
3) Along with the 1 serve rule, if you screen a player on the serve, it is automatic side out. This creates even more pressure on drive servers to provide a more open space for the returner to shoot through.
